The variety forms upright stems 90 to 150 cm tall with sword-shaped green leaves. The 12–20 cm flowers have a saturated lemon-yellow or creamy-yellow color with a warmer golden shade in the throat; the petals are distinctly ruffled.
Flowering occurs from July to September. The plant is resistant to diseases and lodging, but is not winter-hardy and requires annual digging up of the corms. The crop prefers sunny, wind-protected locations and fertile, well-drained soils.
