Variety description

10 August 2026

The Běloslupké variety is a stabilized population of Jerusalem artichoke, the name of which translates from Czech as “white-skinned.” The plant forms vigorous stems from 50 to 250 cm in height. Under the climatic conditions of the Czech Republic, flowering occurs in late autumn, while seeds usually do not ripen.

The tubers contain 13–20% inulin, as well as fructose and glucose. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, withstanding frosts down to –30 °C, which allows tubers to be left in the soil for the winter. The plant possesses high vitality and the ability for rapid spread across the territory.

Běloslupké is a multipurpose variety used for food in raw, boiled, or baked form. The above-ground biomass and tubers are also used as feed for livestock and wild fauna, and are also considered as raw material for the production of bioethanol or fuel.
