The Ukrainian variety Zlata originates from wild populations of sea buckthorn from the Karadag Nature Reserve. The plant is characterized by a complete absence of thorns on the branches; the fruits have a yellow color, a large size, and ripen in September.

International scientific reviews describe the variety Zlata as a high-yielding thornless sea buckthorn with large fruits, belonging to the subspecies subsp. mongolica. Data on plant height, resistance to diseases, and lodging are absent.
