ActiveHordeum vulgare L. · Barley
ULRICH and JOSEF BREUN
10 August 2026
The variety is highly productive and adapted to the conditions of the variable Mediterranean climate, demonstrating yield indicators comparable to or exceeding modern varieties. Compared to local island forms, the variety forms larger but less hard grains.
The plant possesses high allelopathic activity, allowing it to suppress the growth of a number of weeds, such as barnyard grass and bristlegrass. Due to this property, the variety is being studied as a cover crop and mulch material in organic farming and No-till systems to increase the yields of subsequent crops.
In breeding work, the variety is used as a parental form, including in crosses with other barley lines.
