The Carina barley variety is an intensive-type two-row spring barley. Morphologically, the variety is characterized by a long ear.

The plant is intended for malting use. In breeding practice, the variety is known as a source of complex disease resistance, including powdery mildew, and is distinguished by a reduced tannin content in the grain.

Due to its high breeding significance, the variety has been widely used as source material for the development of new hybrid forms of barley.
