The spring barley variety was obtained in 1965 from the parent material of the Valtický variety via induced mutagenesis using X-rays. Due to its characteristics, it has become a genetic donor for the creation of over 150 barley varieties worldwide.
The plant is of the semi-dwarf type and has stems approximately 15 cm shorter than the standard varieties of that time, which ensures high lodging resistance. The variety possesses excellent tillering rates, while being susceptible to powdery mildew.
The grain of the variety is distinguished by balanced malting qualities, which determined its primary use as a malting barley.
