The historical barley variety Olympia (C.I. 6107), introduced from Germany in 1931, possessed moderate winter hardiness and weak straw. At present, it has been almost completely replaced by other varieties and is not used in modern breeding programs.
The name Olympia is also encountered in scientific literature as a designation for a barley landrace from the Mediterranean basin, which is used exclusively in genetic research on plant drought tolerance.
