The plant is a herbaceous perennial with strong upright stems 50 to 90 cm high and a bush width of 50–70 cm. Inflorescences with a diameter of 10–12 cm consist of melon-yellow ray florets and a convex orange center, and possess an aroma.

The variety is winter-hardy, corresponding to hardiness zone 4 with tolerance to temperatures down to -28...-34°C. The plant attracts pollinators, and its seeds serve as food for birds during the winter period. Risk factors include aster yellows and fungal diseases occurring with excessive soil moisture.
