Variety description

10 August 2026

The plant is a dwarf form with a height of 2 to 4 meters, rarely up to 7 meters if a support is provided. The leaves are light green, heart-shaped, often with a purple hue on the underside. Flowering occurs in summer; flowers are gathered in flat lacecap-type inflorescences.

The variety is a natural variant growing in the forest regions of Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. The plant is winter hardy, suitable for USDA zones 5b, adapted for vertical landscaping using adventitious roots, and for growing as a ground cover.

Prefers shady or semi-shady locations with moist, humus-rich soil. The plant is sensitive to waterlogging and does not tolerate calcareous soils, where chlorosis may develop.
