The name is not a strictly fixed breeding designation. In a number of cases, it refers to the variety «Ayesha», known for its flower shape resembling lilac, or to a specific color within the commercial «Kanmara» series. Exact morphological characteristics depend on the original cultivar.

Plants of this type have a compact or medium height from 0.8 to 1.5 meters and are distinguished by large, dense inflorescences on strong peduncles. Flowering usually continues from June to autumn, with many modern varieties of the Kanmara group being remontant.

The winter hardiness of most such varieties corresponds to USDA zone 6, which requires covering when grown in the conditions of the middle zone. The hydrangeas are suitable for container cultivation, patios, as well as single and group plantings in the garden.

The petal color of Hydrangea macrophylla depends on the acidity of the soil and the presence of aluminum in it. When the pH level changes, the color of the inflorescences can vary from pink to blue or lilac.
