The variety is characterized by pronounced serrated edges on the leaves and petals, which visually resemble the zigzag cut of pinking shears. The plant is capable of changing the color of its inflorescences depending on soil characteristics: on acidic soils they become light blue, while on alkaline soils they acquire a pinkish hue.

The variety is used in ornamental floriculture and is suitable for cultivation in gardens and as a container plant. It is a valuable collector's specimen. It is important not to confuse this variety with Hydrangea macrophylla «Blauer Prinz» («Blue Prince»), which is a separate plant with different characteristics.
