The shrub has an upright spreading form with stiff, strong dark red shoots. An adult plant reaches 1.5–2.0 m in height and diameter. The leaves are large, ovate, dark green, and by autumn they acquire bronze, purple, or cherry shades with a metallic sheen.
The inflorescences are broadly pyramidal, 30–40 cm long, and have a honey aroma. Flowering continues from June to October, during which the color of the flowers changes from cream-white to pink, and by autumn it becomes deep wine-red.
The variety is winter hardy, withstanding temperatures down to -30...-40 °C. The plant is resistant to diseases and pests and does not lodge due to its strong shoots. It prefers fertile moist soils with an acidic or neutral reaction and grows well in sun and partial shade.
