Variety Yuan-Yang (synonym Crug Farm, code BSWJ 3804) was obtained from seeds collected in the area of Lake Yuan-Yang in northern Taiwan. The plant is a breeding form introduced into cultivation by Crûg Farm Nursery.

The shrub height is 2 to 4 meters. Characteristic features of the variety are dark purple shoots and foliage, which is smaller and darker than in typical forms of the species. Flowering continues from July to October; sterile flowers have prominent veins and a purple center.

The plant is winter-hardy and wind-resistant. The variety develops well on various soil types, tolerates both full sun and partial shade, and is used in ornamental gardening.
