The shrub reaches a height of 1.5–2 m and a width of 1–1.5 m. It possesses strong, flexible, burgundy-colored shoots and oval leaves of medium or dark green color. Inflorescences up to 30–35 cm in length have a pyramidal shape and often exhibit a two-tone effect.
Flowering lasts from July to October. The plant withstands frosts down to -35...-40°C and is resistant to major diseases. The variety prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soils with an acidic or neutral reaction; it does not tolerate waterlogging or lime.
