Variety description

The botanical form var. hortensis was described in 1867. Its main morphological feature is panicle inflorescences up to 30 cm long, which consist predominantly or entirely of large sterile flowers, giving the plant increased density and ornamental appeal.

The plant is a shrub or small tree ranging from 1 to 5 meters in height. Flowering occurs in the late summer and autumn period, from late July or early August to October. The crop is characterized by winter hardiness; however, the large inflorescences can reduce the resistance of shoots to lodging.

This form originates from East Asia and is intended exclusively for ornamental landscaping. In modern botanical nomenclature, it is not classified as a standardized breeding variety.
