The plant reaches a height of 1.4–1.8 m. The foliage is dark green, may acquire reddish-purple shades in autumn, and small black spots are often found on it. Inflorescences are flat: fertile flowers are located in the center, and larger sterile ones are on the periphery. By autumn, the inflorescences turn reddish-brown.

The variety prefers partial shade and areas protected from the wind. Watering requirement is regular; the soil must remain moderately moist. Winter hardiness is estimated down to -18 °C (USDA zone 6, with protection 5). The shrub is used for gardens, borders, or container landscaping.
