The plant is a compact shrub 0.9–1.2 m in height with a potential spread of up to 2 meters. The foliage is small, green, often with violet or purple hues, turning red-burgundy in the autumn.
The lacecap-type inflorescences consist of central fertile and marginal sterile flowers. Their color varies from blue in acidic soils to pink or bluish-pink in neutral and alkaline soils.
The variety blooms in summer, from July to August. It is characterized by winter hardiness in USDA zones 5–9, withstanding temperatures down to -25 °C. The plant requires moderately moist, well-drained soils and prefers partial shade; in case of moisture deficit, it can quickly lose leaf turgor.
