The plant reaches a height of 1.0–1.5 meters. The leaves are broad-elliptic, 10–17 by 5–10 cm in size, distinguished by their dark color, prominent venation, and a texture resembling nettle leaves. In autumn, the foliage can acquire dark brown hues.

Inflorescences are flat, "plate"-type, 10–17 cm in diameter, with sterile flowers up to 4 cm in diameter. The coloration of the inflorescences is predominantly blue or bluish-pink; towards autumn, they may acquire a pinkish hue. The flowering period lasts from mid-June to September.

Winter hardiness is assessed as good; the plant withstands frosts down to -18 °C. The shrub prefers partial shade. It is used in ornamental landscaping and is suitable for growing in containers, creating borders, and low hedges.
