Variety description

The shrub has a compact, well-branched, rounded or hemispherical shape and reaches a height of 1.0–1.2 m. Leaves are lanceolate or ovate, bronze-green upon emergence, and turn a rich red or burgundy-red in autumn.
Flat-shaped inflorescences consist of small fertile flowers in the center and larger sterile ones at the edges. Flower color varies from bright pink to purple-violet depending on soil pH, becoming carmine-red with age.
Flowering lasts from June to September, with repeat flowering possible. The plant possesses winter hardiness (USDA zone 5, down to -29°C), relative resistance to leaf sunscald, and tolerates dry climates better than a number of other varieties of the species.
