The variety is a thermophilic perennial plant that is grown as an annual in temperate climates. The plant is characterized by high branching density, reaching 25–30 cm in height with a bush width of up to 90 cm.
The leaves are palmate-lobed, ranging in color from brown-purple to deep burgundy. It rarely flowers under cultivation; the flowers are funnel-shaped, pale lilac or pinkish-lilac. The variety possesses high heat tolerance and some resistance to Verticillium wilt.
The plant is not intended for the production of marketable tubers. Although the variety is capable of forming them, they are usually small, misshapen, and inferior in taste to specialized edible varieties.
