The BLEGGIANA (TR9) variety originates from the Bleggio area and is recognized as a cultural heritage item. The trees are characterized by a slow entry into the fruiting phase, which begins approximately 15 years after planting. Harvesting of the fruits, which have an oval shape and a thin shell with distinct ribs, takes place in September-October.
The kernel of the variety has a high oil content, a light color, and a characteristic aroma, which is why the nut is traditionally used in confectionery production, baking, and for making liqueurs. In commercial horticulture, the variety is giving way to more productive and early-bearing species. The roots of young trees are susceptible to infestation by the nematode Mesocriconema xenoplax.
