The variety «Ibar» was selected from more than 25,000 trees of a local population in Serbia. It is used in breeding work and for establishing plantations. The fruits of the variety have satisfactory quality indicators; it also serves as an object of research on genetic diversity and pollen biology.

The tree possesses resistance to the fungal disease anthracnose (Gnomonia juglandis) and is characterized by frost resistance. Phenological observations indicate fruit ripening at the end of October.
