The variety belongs to tetraploid (4n) forms. Tetraploid varieties of this species are distinguished by larger seeds and provide succulent forage that is more palatable to livestock compared to diploid counterparts.

The variety is used as a high-yielding forage crop for the production of green fodder and hay. Italian ryegrass can include both annual and biennial forms; however, further data from the breeder is required to specify the life cycle of the Avance variety.
