The Barlatra variety is a tetraploid form of perennial ryegrass. It was widely used for forage purposes, including pasture and hay use, often in mixtures with clover.

In the turf industry, the variety was used as a component of mixtures for creating durable covers. The variety appeared in international variety trials and breeding lists of the 1970s–1980s, often being mentioned in comparative tables along with other varieties of that period.
