The plant reaches a height of 3–4 meters. Leaves are elliptical, green with an irregular white-cream margin, sometimes with a pinkish tint. Young shoots are colored red-purple.
Flowers are tubular, fragrant, up to 5 cm long, with a purple-violet exterior and a cream interior. Flowering lasts from June to September. After flowering, glossy red inedible berries are formed.
The variety is frost-hardy (zones 4a–8b), undemanding. Prefers sunny or semi-shaded areas protected from wind with moist, slightly acidic soil. Used in ornamental gardening for decorating gazebos, fences, and trellises.
