The variety originates from the province of Siena and is not the result of modern targeted breeding, representing a historically established local variety.

Studies of the variety are mainly focused on the analysis of the nutraceutical properties of the fruit, in particular on the content of polyphenols and antioxidant activity. Data on tree morphology, flowering times and yields are absent from the literature.

The variety is used within the concept of local consumption and is preserved as part of the regional genetic heritage.
