The variety is an old folk selection described as early as the 18th century. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and reaches 6–8 meters in height without the use of dwarfing rootstocks.
The fruits have a characteristic elongated shape, for which the variety received the name "sheep's nose". The fruit skin is yellow with red stripes, the flesh is yellowish-white, juicy, with a pronounced acidity. The variety is a winter one; the period of consumer maturity falls in the interval from December to March.
The variety has a number of synonyms, such as Berliner Schafsnase, Runde Schafsnase, and Steilapfel. In pomological catalogs, it is important to indicate the full name to avoid confusion with culinary products or other varieties with similar names.
