The variety originated in Somerset, England, and is presumably a seedling or sport of the variety «Dabinett». The tree is moderately vigorous, of spur-bearing habit, reaching a height of 4–8 meters depending on the rootstock. The variety is self-sterile, belongs to pollination group D, and requires the presence of suitable pollinator varieties.

Fruits are medium to large in size, dark purple, almost black in color. The harvest matures in November. The juice of the fruits is classified as medium-bittersweet. The variety is characterized by regular high yields and good field resistance to scab and fruit rot. Fruits are not suitable for fresh consumption and store poorly, requiring rapid processing after harvest.
