The variety is a mutant, also known by the code BR 13/11-7. The fruits have a balanced sweet-acid taste, with firm and crisp flesh. The surface of the apples is covered with a brick-red striped color over 3/4 or more of the fruit surface area.

The variety is late-maturing; fruit ripening occurs in October, approximately 2–3 weeks after the Golden Delicious variety, and can be extended over time. The plant is moderately sensitive to scab, susceptible to fire blight, powdery mildew, and Nectria canker, and requires calcium level control for the prevention of bitter pit.
