Breiter Süßer, also known by the synonym Bresüthe, is an old variety distributed mainly in the Lower Rhine. Fruits ripen from late September to early October and are suitable for storage until December or January. Trees of this variety are often characterized as robust, however, detailed agrotechnical data on the variety is lacking.

Historically, fruits of this variety were used en masse for processing into apple butter. Today, the variety is found mainly in old traditional-type orchards and is the subject of activities by enthusiasts for the conservation of biodiversity.
