Apple variety EPAGRI 402-Catarina was created within the framework of the E'AppleBP breeding program, aimed at improving the adaptive qualities of fruit trees. The primary objectives in breeding the variety were increasing productivity, obtaining high-quality fruit, and ensuring disease resistance.

A key characteristic of the variety is its pronounced resistance to scab. During cultivation, good synchrony of the flowering period with the Joaquina variety is noted, which makes their joint cultivation expedient for pollination and efficient use of orchard space.
