The Châtaignier variety is an old French variety that was widely distributed in the Paris region. The fruits have a multi-purpose use, suitable for fresh consumption, culinary processing, and cider production.

The tree is characterized by medium vigor, good yield, and a spreading crown. The variety is late-maturing; harvest and consumer maturity occur from November to December. Flowering is medium-late, which helps avoid spring frosts. The variety possesses high winter hardiness and good disease resistance.

The fruits are small in size, rounded, and slightly flattened. The skin is yellow-green in color with a pronounced blush on the sunny side. The flesh is white, sweet, moderately juicy, and delicate, acquiring a more melting consistency during storage.
