The variety has a number of synonyms, such as "De Noël", "Saint-Nicolas", "Santa Klauss", and "Gambsler". Historically, it is associated with the Alsace region and areas where the Alemannic dialect is spoken.

The fruits ripen in December, making them suitable for the Christmas season. The variety is included in genetic bank databases as an object for the conservation of historical and local genetic resources.
