The variety has a number of synonyms, including Cigančica, Malinovka, Öszi piros kalvil, Rother Herbst Calvill, and Zigeunerapfel. The variety is listed in official registries in national lists, however, detailed agronomic descriptions, such as disease resistance or soil requirements, are absent.

The name Ciganček is also found in literature as a folk name for the edible fungus Cortinarius caperatus, which requires differentiation when searching for botanical data.
