The Ciosa variety was obtained during breeding work at the Italian research institute Istituto Sperimentale per la Frutticoltura (Trento branch). This form was developed as part of a program to breed scab-resistant apple trees with the aim of reducing the use of fungicides.

The main biological feature of the variety is high resistance to the apple scab pathogen Venturia inaequalis. The plant possesses good vigor and is capable of producing stable annual yields.
