The variety is a spontaneous bud mutation of Royal Gala. The fruits are distinguished by a deep red color without the pronounced striping characteristic of the original variety, and possess juicy, crisp flesh and a dessert taste with high sugar content.

The tree has moderate to strong vigor and a spreading crown. The variety has medium to high chilling requirements (500–800 hours) and needs pollinator varieties, such as Granny Smith or Golden Delicious. The intensity of fruit coloration depends on the presence of cool nighttime temperatures during the period before harvest.
