The Rosa Gentile variety is an old Italian tree of medium height with a semi-spreading crown. The fruits are of medium size, have an irregular flattened shape and a smooth light green skin with an intense orange-red blush.

The flesh of the fruit is white, translucent and of fine texture. At the time of harvest, the apples are firm and crunchy, but over time they may acquire a mealy consistency. The taste is characterized as sweet-sour with a pronounced aroma. The harvest takes place at the beginning of autumn.

In Italian pomology, the word Gentile was often used as a descriptive epithet meaning 'noble' or 'pleasant', so it can be found in the synonyms of various varieties. Outside the context of old local varieties, there is no commercial apple variety with the name simply Gentile.
