The variety is native to the Bessin region of France and belongs to the category of heirloom varieties. The fruits are characterized by the presence of bitterness and acidity, which makes them suitable exclusively for cider preparation, providing a balance of tannins and acids in the beverage.

In traditional orchards, the trees are grown as tall standards, however, under modern conditions, the variety is often grafted onto dwarf rootstocks. The harvest period falls in the autumn months from September to November. In conditions of rich silty soils, the trees show vigorous growth.
