The variety has been known since the 19th century and is a historical Danish variety. Literature also mentions the variety Langt rødt Hindbæræble, which is similar in characteristics.

The fruits are used primarily for culinary processing. The variety is included in studies of the chemical composition and sensory characteristics of juices as a representative of old varieties with a unique aromatic profile.
