The variety originates from the Welten area near the city of Heerlen. It was initially cultivated by the farmer Alexander Janssen and became widespread after 1820. Historically, the fruits of this variety were used both for fresh consumption and for the production of apple butter and syrup.

Detailed agrotechnical characteristics of the variety, including maturity dates and indicators of disease resistance, are absent in open sources. In the 20th century, the variety practically disappeared due to the reduction in the number of traditional orchards, and at the current moment, it is considered primarily as an object of cultural and historical heritage.
