The variety was bred in Latvia at the Dobele Horticultural Plant Breeding Station. It is included in the documentation of bioresource collections, however, detailed morphological characteristics of the tree and detailed indicators of disease resistance are presented to a limited extent in publications.

The variety name is common, due to which various local forms or folk varieties may be encountered under this name in amateur gardening, which creates difficulties in their identification.
