The variety is a traditional local genetic resource that is not the result of breeding hybridization. The fruits of the variety have good keeping quality during storage, however, for processing, it is recommended to use them within a week after harvesting.

The fruits are widely used in cooking for making compotes and desserts, and are also the main raw material for local cider production. The cider made from this variety is characterized by an acidity at a pH level of about 3.5. In the conditions of Madeira, apple trees of this variety are often planted in small orchards, where they also serve as wind protection.
