Pigloma is a clonal mutant of the Gloster variety, selected for its morphological growth characteristics. Unlike the vigorous parent variety, this mutant belongs to the short-stemmed (spur) forms, characterized by a more compact and spreading crown, which simplifies tree maintenance.

In terms of taste and appearance, the fruit of the variety are virtually identical to the Gloster variety. It is a late-winter maturing apple for dessert use. The variety has low susceptibility to Neofabraea spp. fruit rot.

In the absence of thorough fruit thinning, the fruit of the mutant may be slightly smaller than those of the parent Gloster variety.
