The Ryoka variety is a spontaneous bud mutant of the Fuji apple. Studies confirm the identity of this variety's genotype with Ryoka-no-kisetsu. The fruits are characterized by high flesh density, and the variety itself belongs to the early maturity group with the start of harvesting in mid-September.

The variety is susceptible to fungal diseases, including white rot Botryosphaeria dothidea and bitter rot Glomerella cingulata. In scientific literature, trees of this variety are often mentioned when using clonal rootstocks, such as M.26.
