The variety belongs to the group of winter apple trees. Tree height varies from 2 to 4 meters, and depending on the rootstock, it can reach 3–6 meters. The plant's flowering period occurs in April.

The variety is a historical local variety, also known by the names Mašanka and Štajerski mošancelj. It is used as a fruit crop and is included in the national variety registers of a number of countries.
