The variety is a color mutation of the Winesap group of varieties. Historically, it was positioned as an improved variety with a more saturated fruit color. Trees are characterized by high yield.

The fruits belong to the winter or late-winter maturity group and are suitable both for fresh consumption and for processing, in particular for making applesauce. Storage of the produce requires compliance with a specific regime.

Morphological features of the tree, such as height or disease resistance, correspond to the characteristics of the original Stayman Winesap variety.
