The round-shaped fruits possess crisp flesh with a slightly sweet, fruity flavor and are distinguished by good keeping quality. The variety shows a tendency toward fruit deformation in the form of depressions, folds, or roughness, which may be caused by physiological factors or viruses.
The plant is moderately vigorous and prone to biennial bearing. A clone of the variety with more intense coloration exists under the name Red Statesman. The variety should not be confused with the Stayman Winesap variety.

Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
