Vegi Cox is considered a clone or mutant of the Cox's Orange Pippin variety. Molecular genetic analyses using SSR markers often show that Vegi Cox and the original variety are indistinguishable, although modern SNP tests can detect minimal genetic differences.

The characteristics of Vegi Cox correspond to the indicators of the Cox's Orange Pippin variety. The fruits are of medium size, round-conical in shape, with a yellow ground color and red-brown stripes. The flesh is characterized by juiciness, aroma, and a distinctive nutty flavor.

The variety is intended primarily for fresh consumption. The plant is demanding in terms of growing conditions, sensitive to high humidity, and prone to scab and powdery mildew.
