The variety originates from the province of Siena and is not a product of modern breeding, falling into the category of ancient local varieties. Currently, it is included in the lists of farmer-custodians of agrobiodiversity and is used as a resource for preserving the genetic pool.

Scientific work on this variety is dedicated to the study of the nutraceutical value of the fruits, in particular the analysis of their composition, including antioxidants and phenolic compounds. Detailed agronomic descriptions of the variety are absent in open publications.
