The tree is medium-sized, forming a pyramidal crown that becomes dense early. The variety is demanding of growing conditions, requiring a moderate maritime climate and soils with high water-holding capacity. Due to its sensitivity to the climate and the tendency of the fruits to crack during drought, it is considered difficult to cultivate and is not suitable for extensive gardening.

Fruits are medium-sized (100–120 g), rounded, slightly flattened. The skin is yellow-green with an orange-red marbled blush and characteristic russeting. The flesh is yellowish-white, juicy, with a subtle aroma. Harvesting maturity occurs from the end of September to the middle of October, consumer maturity from October to March.

The name is historically linked to the variety Cox’s Orange Pippin, although there are versions regarding the independent nature of the Verbesserte Muskatrenette variety.
